It's rarely a slow warning. Cold showers one morning, a puddle at the base of the tank, or a pilot light that won't hold, and suddenly it's not a maintenance item anymore. Gas-fired units need to be set up for elevation the same way a furnace does, or they run rich and lose efficiency without ever throwing an obvious fault. We check the setup on every repair call, on our own installs and on anyone else's.
